I decided to post the GX-700 MIDI Implementation, which I wrote into a plain text file in 1998, directly extracted from the original Roland/BOSS document. More than 20 years later, you may download it here.
It contains detailed information if you wish to work with the device at SysEx level. It also exposses some examples that along with my own comments might help you understand how the GX-700 communicates.
